Grammy-nominated singer Halsey is experiencing the bad side of fandom and decided not to keep quiet about what she’s going through. She used the Tumblr platform on July 30th to express her feelings about fans who were negative about her recent return to music, emphasizing how much she was struggling.
Frustration with Fans
According to her post, Halsey is regretful about coming back since her fans have become mean to her, and meaner than everybody else. The star compared her current situation to the situation of the past when only a small number of fans were nasty to her. Now, however, a seeming majority of fans have expressed negative opinions about her. The singer emphasized the difficulty of engaging in a space that lacks human decency or kindness.
Halsey also dwelled on her health struggles and mentioned her diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder, emphasizing how important it is for her now to do what makes her truly happy. Her return to the music scene, however, is no longer among the things she finds rewarding. She even said that she regrets returning to music.
She’s a Real Person
Halsey later posted a follow-up, noticing how ironic it was that she was in the process of uploading a different version of her single “Lucky” while traveling to a health scan, really marking the contrast in her professional and personal lives.
Halsey is currently in the process of producing another album. Her most recent release was “The End” in June, but based on how she’s feeling about her return to the spotlight, the new album may very well be the last. The struggles Halsey is facing reflect the experiences of many other artists nowadays dealing with toxic fandoms who constantly demand more and more, seeing artists as commodities rather than people.
